Bear Robotics Acquires Kinisi Robotics to Strengthen Physical AI Capabilities
Bear Robotics has acquired Kinisi Robotics, a Bristol, U.K.-based company that uses reinforcement learning to automate repetitive industrial tasks. The deal, announced on The Robot Report Podcast, is expected to bolster Bear Robotics’ physical AI capabilities by integrating Kinisi’s advanced robotic learning systems into its fleet.
Kinisi Robotics: From Humanoid Research to Industrial Automation
Kinisi Robotics was founded by Bren Pierce, who holds a Ph.D. in humanoid robotics from the Technical University of Munich and has over a decade of global research experience. Pierce previously scaled multiple companies, raising more than $180 million and deploying over 10,000 robots worldwide. He launched Kinisi to bridge the gap between AI and the physical world, moving beyond traditional hardcoded automation.
The company’s prototype, the KR1, is currently being scaled for industrial environments. It uses reinforcement learning to perform dirty and repetitive tasks alongside human workers, aiming to break the rigid limitations of conventional automation.
Implications for Bear Robotics
The acquisition brings Kinisi’s expertise in learning-based robotic control under Bear Robotics’ umbrella, potentially enabling more adaptive and autonomous systems in commercial and industrial settings. Bear Robotics, known for its autonomous service robots, can now leverage Kinisi’s technology to handle a wider range of physical tasks without explicit programming.

Agility Robotics Pursues Public Listing
In other industry news, humanoid robot maker Agility Robotics announced plans to go public through a SPAC merger. The move signals growing investor interest in humanoid platforms designed for logistics and warehouse applications, as the robotics sector continues to attract capital for scaling commercial deployments.
