InDro Robotics Unveils Cortex and Controller for Streamlined Robotic Integration

By editorial News

Canada’s InDro Robotics has launched two new products—InDro Cortex and InDro Controller—designed to accelerate the integration and operation of ground robots and specialized drones. The Cortex is a compact compute and sensor integrator that can be mounted on virtually any robotic platform. At just 11 cm by 14 cm by 10 cm and weighing 679 grams, it is both lightweight and platform-agnostic, supporting a wide range of robotics frameworks.

Cortex enables data transmission over 5G networks with imperceptible lag, allowing remote operators to send instructions in near real-time. It comes preloaded with ROS2 Humble and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, providing a standard software environment for robotics companies, R&D organizations, and academia. The base model features a processor capable of 100 trillion operations per second (TOPS), with options for higher-performance upgrades in demanding applications.

Simplified Sensor Integration and Connectivity

The device offers multiple I/O and power options, greatly simplifying the integration of sensors. Cortex supplies power to connected sensors directly from the robot’s own power source. It includes a 5G modem and long-range antennae, supporting both public and private 5G networks as well as WiFi. The system has been refined through years of research and is now a core product for InDro Robotics.

Intuitive Control Software

The companion InDro Controller software provides a secure desktop interface for viewing data and controlling robots. Users can operate manually, run autonomous missions with pre-programmed waypoints, or function in GPS-denied environments using LiDAR SLAM or vSLAM. The dashboard allows easy resizing and repositioning of data windows and location displays, and enables users to save missions for automatic execution at scheduled intervals. The software runs onboard Cortex, accessible via a URL with encrypted login. An optional InDro Autonomy software stack is also available.

Industry Impact

“Cortex is the result of a tremendous amount of R&D from our Area X.O engineering team,” said Philip Reece, founder and CEO of InDro Robotics. “It not only greatly simplifies building complex robots, but can vastly enhance robotic platforms ranging from engineering research robots through to military defence platforms. It, along with Controller, will be core InDro products for many years to come.”
