Realbotix to Deploy First Humanoid Robot and AI Teacher's Assistant in U.S. School District

By editorial News

Realbotix Corp. has launched a pioneering pilot program at Salamanca City Central School District on the Seneca Nation Reservation in New York, marking the first deployment of a humanoid robot and AI teacher's assistant in a U.S. public school. The initiative introduces Optio, an AI-powered teaching assistant, alongside a Realbotix M-Series humanoid robot designed to boost interactive classroom engagement and showcase embodied AI in education.

Optio AI Assistant

Optio serves as a personalized AI tutor and teacher's aide, extending learning beyond school hours. Students interact with custom avatars trained on the district's curriculum, offering educationally regulated support, concept reinforcement, individual tutoring, and 24/7 homework assistance in multiple languages. The platform provides scalable AI help for both students and educators while strengthening credibility for STEM fields.

The pilot also features a Realbotix M-Series humanoid robot that uses natural conversation, facial expressions, and real-time interaction to create immersive, hands-on learning experiences. The robot aims to encourage student participation and provide early exposure to emerging technologies, helping prepare students for careers in STEM and advanced robotics.

Quotes from Leadership

"This deployment in a working school district represents a landmark moment for both AI and humanoid robotics," said Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Realbotix. "We are moving beyond lab demonstrations and pilots to deliver real, embodied AI directly into classrooms — supporting teachers, engaging students, and proving that advanced robotics can thrive in live educational environments."

Dr. Mark Beehler, Superintendent of Salamanca City Central School District, added: "Salamanca Schools are excited to partner with Realbotix to provide our students with a safe, Salamanca-specific AI tutor and our educators with customized AI tools. With strong school-specific safeguards for content and privacy, this tool removes the risk of exposure to inappropriate, inaccurate, or biased information."

Safeguards and Future Plans

The program incorporates education-specific safety guardrails, including protections against inappropriate responses and unreliable outputs, operating under full district oversight. Optio also supports neurodiverse learners through personalized reinforcement and assists teachers with lesson planning and differentiated instruction while keeping educators in full control.

The initial deployment supports high school students in the district's Woz ED AI and Robotics courses, with plans to expand to approximately 500 high school students in the Fall semester. Salamanca serves as the flagship deployment for Realbotix's broader education rollout strategy, which aims to measure outcomes in student engagement, concept mastery, and teacher workload reduction to establish a repeatable "AI teaching assistant layer" for additional districts and STEM-focused schools.
